Northland Tackle is a fishing tackle company based in Northern Minnesota. They came to Gemini looking to convert more customers on their website and to build greater online authority in the sport fishing community. We were excited to cast our lines and land a winning solution.

Northland’s website was stocked with all the gear and lures you’d need for a trophy fishing expedition, but the website needed a better user experience. Northland wanted to guide anglers of all levels, but especially novices, through their products so that they could easily find the right fishing lure for their needs. Once the user reached the appropriate page, we needed to encourage them to convert.
Additionally, Northland was seeking an improved forum to exhibit their fishing expertise. They had an extensive library of blogs and videos but were looking for something personal and interactive that still tied into their sales funnel.
The Goal: to make Northlandtackle.com a hotspot that sport fishers would return to frequently.
The Strategy: Reeling In Conversions
Northland was receptive to exploring how emerging AI and automation technologies could elevate their website and improve their business. With this in mind, our strategy was to develop a custom AI chatbot with a full understanding of fish species, fishing techniques, lure specifications, and topography.
The primary goal was to help anglers confidently find and purchase the lures that fit their specific needs. Our secondary goal was to create a hub that allowed users to input information around their upcoming fishing trip and receive detailed output about their destination including water depths, species locations, and best fishing times.
Gemini began the machine learning process. We configured the chatbot, set it to work scraping Northland’s website, and then trained it to answer user queries accurately. After a short trial period and through ongoing maintenance, we were able to launch an effective bot on Northland’s website in a span of three months.
The Results: Measuring the Catch
Northland Tackle’s chatbot—aka the “Tacklebot”—immediately showed its value in the form of greater user engagement, more first time conversions, and higher sales. We even heard through the client that groups of fishermen would get together and test the bot for fun.
